The Number of Mekong River Dolphin Increased to 155 to 175

With the conservation project support by the government of Cambodia, the number of the Mekong river dolphin increased from 155 to 175 dolphins, Touch Sien Tana, Chairman of the National Committee to Preserve Mekong River Dolphin said.

Cambodia spend around Riel 400 millions to Riel 500 millions to preserve and educate the people in the region, said he.

With this conservation project there are more than 700 households can get extra benefit from these dolphins by eco tourism, selling souvenir, as well as food. said he.

Mekong river dolphin is a fresh water mammal where they are living along the Mekong river from Kampi in Kraties, nearly 300 km northeastern province of Phnom Penh to Stung Treng close to Laos border.
